The protest outfit

The purple protest outfit, consisting of a purple t-shirt and purple cap, is requested of all protestors, and will be purchased on the day (as we cannot afford the postage).

Protestors at rest

The same outfit will be worn for all the protests, so you should get plenty of use out of it.

The one-off cost is:
£5 for unwaged protestors (those who are not working, or on benefits), and
£10 for waged protestors (those who are in work, or can afford it).
The unwaged price barely covers the cost of the t-shirt and cap, and does not contribute towards the placards which are supplied to all protestors.

First-time protestors will need to give notice no later than the evening before if you are unable to make it. This is because we will end up carrying a surplus of t-shirts and caps for the day otherwise.

The essential thing is to wear the most comfortable walking shoes that you have (either proper walking shoes, or trainers).

Highly recommended to bring with you is a bottle (250-500ml) of water. Chanting can make your throat dry, as well as to remain hydrated if the weather is warm.

Travel as lightly as possible. You need your hands free for placards, there is no-where to put handbags, so a bag with a shoulder strap – or preferably a day pack is recommended.

If the weather is questionable, then something lightweight for warmth (like a fleece) or very lightweight rain jacket. The wet-weather plan is “take cover!”. This has certainly been about the wettest summer on record.

Try to have at least a light breakfast. It will help you last the distance until lunchtime.

The size guide:
This is a fairly approximate size guide. Remember that these are actually men’s t-shirts and are cut straight, so if you are more hippy please take that into consideration (use your hips as the maximum measurement). The photo below shows a ’size 10′ protestor wearing a Medium t-shirt (click to enlarge).

We need to know your desired t-shirt size before the day. Small and Medium are the two most popular sizes, and we have only a small number of Larges and XLs in stock. XXLs are not kept in stock, and would need to be ordered in. The baseball caps are one-size-fits-all, and are adjustable. If you wish to ask more about the sizes, please email the Protest RSVP address.
